Adventurous Women Blog

This blog is for those of us with even a little bit of adventure in our souls. It started when some friends and I formed an adventure club so we would try something fun, new, interesting, or challenging every few months—the things we had always wanted to try but never had the nerve or the time to attempt. I hope the ideas posted here will inspire you and your friends to take a break from routine and have an adventure! As Helen Keller said, "Life is either a great adventure or nothing.”

52 Weeks

Exactly one year ago today, my life took an unexpected turn. Actually, I meant to turn, it was the guy who ran the red light and smashed into my van that was unexpected. From that moment until today, I've had more life changing experiences than I can count on one hand. Now, 52 weeks after the death of my car, I've just returned from Puerto Rico's gorgeous rain forest, which is nothing if not life affirming. This year long journey has shown me that the meaning of my life is just to enjoy each little moment as it appears.

So, that said, I think the time is right to rejoin the blogosphere and have a little fun in cyberspace.

Start An Adventure Club!

A few years ago, some friends and I formed an adventure club and named ourselves the League of Adventurous Women. Over wine and appetizers we decided to sponsor four adventures per year. Each one would be an opportunity to try something new or challenging or just plain fun. We all agreed to limit the group to women -- no kids, no husbands, no significant others.

That was more than seven years ago and the group has tripled in size. We maintain an ever-growing, very eclectic, master list of possible adventures. We don't limit our adventure list in any way because what one woman finds adventurous another woman may find terrifying or routine; so variety gives everyone choices. Over the years, the League of Adventurous Women has done everything from trapeze lessons to flower arranging, ghost tours to skeet shooting and skydiving. We still meet every January to plan our adventurous year.

Now it's time for you to create an adventure club of your own. Look below for adventure ideas and the basics of starting a group in your neighborhood. Then go out and expand your horizons!
